The New York Yankees team history

The NY Yankees have fast become synonymous with the big apple. In 1901, the famous Western League President, Ban Johnson begun to restructure the league, is placing teams in three Eastern Cities. This then became the American League. However, big plans to put a team within New York were put on the backburner by the National League’s New York Giants, who had enough power to keep them out. As a result, the team was consequently placed in Baltimore. Nicknamed the Orioles, they began to play in 1901. After due consideration, it was agreed that they would play alongside the Giants in New York, where they eventually became the Yankees.

In addition, the New York Yankees have a long team history, consisting of a host of high points, milestones and championships. With 26 world championships under their belt, they are a prosperous baseball team and a global franchise.

ST. PETERSBURG (5/3) – The Boston Red Sox can’t seem to find a way to stop their division rivals from Tampa Bay, and Sunday afternoon it was the Rays’ LF Carl Crawford that hurt them. Crawford was a masterful thief reaching base on all five at-bats, then stealing six bases with an effort that made it look easy. His accomplishment makes him the MLB leader with 17 stolen bases, and only the fourth player in the modern era to steal six in a single game. Eddie Collins did it twice for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1912, Otis Nixon stole six in 1991, and Eric Young in did it 1996. For the game, the Rays stole a club record eight bases en route to a 5-3 win at Tropicana Field.

CINCINNATI (5/6) – Cincinnati shortstop Paul Janish was called upon Wednesday night to do something he hasn’t done since college:

2006 Tampa Bay Devil Rays Preview

2005 Overview:

There were very few bright spots for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2005 including the final disappointing weekend when Tampa Bay fans were treated to 4 straight home losses compliments of the visiting Baltimore Orioles. 2005 also saw the final departure of Manager Lou Pinella who was granted a final buyout on his contract. The Devil Rays finished the season with a dismal 67-96 record, 28 games behind the division-leading Yankees and Red Sox.

Despite inconsistent offensive production during 2005, sophomore infielder Jorge Cantu (.286 28 117) and rookie outfielder Jonny Gomes (.282 21 54) provided Devil Ray fans with something to be optimistic about. While leftfielder Carl Crawford (.301 15 81) and rightfielder Aubrey Huff (.261 22 92) added some impressive offensive numbers as well.

Devil Ray fans had to look long and hard to find any quality starting pitching for much of the year. Only rookie pitcher Scott Kazmir (10-9 3.77)

A short slideshow of the team that looks to have the franchise’s first winning season since 1997.

The Dangers Of Ephedra

Ephedra is a compound that is often used in weight loss products. It is actually one of the world’s oldest medicines, with documented usage in China occurring over 5,000 years ago. The drug has once again found popularity, this time in America’s search for the perfect weight loss drug. It is known to cause many changes in the body; an increased metabolism, increased weight loss, relaxation of the air passages in the lungs, and increased energy are some of the effects reported. One of the major distributors of ephedra was a weight loss drug that is known as Fen-phen. This drug consists of a combination of ephedra and St. John’s Wort, a natural anti-depressant agent. Over the past few years, plenty of other weight loss drugs on the market also included ephedra. Xenadrine RFA-1, Stacker 2, Stacker 3, and Ripped Fuel all contained ephedra.

However, there is a dark side to ephedra. It has been recently banned for all usage by the Food and Drug Administration of the

Why New York City Is A Baseball Town

It’s true that football, basketball and hockey have their fans, but the sports year begins in February and ends in October – preferably the end of October. And even during the other three and a half months, the hot stove league consumes the city’s consciousness, even eclipsing the Jets and Giants playoff runs.

This love for the game of baseball dates all the ways back to the 19th century as baseball was played throughout New York in its earliest forms. The birth of the National League in 1876 eventually brought the city the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants and when the American League set up shop in 1901, the New York Yankees soon set up shop.

Rooting for a baseball team in New York wasn’t about what team was better, it was an absolute birthright. People were born into a fan base and there was no switching side. As the Yankees established themselves, their fans came from the Bronx and also attracted the corporate visitor and
