Mlb ? History Of The Oakland Athletics Franchise, Highs And Lows

There are a lot of great Major League Baseball teams out there that have rich histories and have basically created their own cultures.  One of these teams is the Oakland Athletics.  The Oakland Athletics are currently in the Western Division of the American League and are based in Oakland, California.  They currently play their home games in the Oakland Coliseum and have done so since 1968.  They are affectionately known as the “A’s” because of the large Black A that has become a trademark of the team, and they are usually referred to as the “A’s” more than they are referred to as the “Athletics”.  Another nickname they have been know by is the “White Elephants” in reference to John McGraw’s statement years ago.

The Oakland A’s were founded in 1901 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  They were first known as the Philadelphia Athletics and then later as the Kansas City Athletics when they were moved there in the mid fifties.  This Major League Baseball team

MLB Tickets – Fantasy: Under-the-Radar Starters

Here are some under-the-radar starting pitchers that should produce good numbers in fantasy baseball in 2010:

David Price, Tampa Bay Rays: I am surprised with how little hype there is surrounding him this season.  He was all the rage of the fantasy world a year ago, but one up-and-down year has really taken the sizzle out of his name.  If he can exhibit better control this season, he could be a huge bargain.  We know he’s got the stuff and he’s on a good team.  Consistency will be the key for Price.

Francisco Liriano, Minnesota Twins: OK, he was a train wreck last season, but he was still recovering from elbow surgery.  He was fantastic in winter ball this offseason and looked strong in the spring.  I don’t think he’ll necessarily return to the pitcher he was before his injury, but he’s got major strikeout potential.  Command could be an issue here.

Phil Hughes, New York Yankees: He won the fifth spot in the rotation this spring and I think

The Los Angeles Dodgers moved from Brooklyn to LA in 1958. Since then, they have won 14 titles including five World Championships and nine National League Pennants. Their postseason history has been quite exciting. Come along as we examine the different postseasons.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won the National League Pennant on the second season of year 1959 and then proceeded to the World Series where they played against the Chicago White Sox both at home and abroad 6 times. Amazingly, the LA Dodgers won the World Championship on that season by winning against the Chicago White Sox 9-3 in the sixth game.

Los Angeles Dodgers played in the World Series and won the National League Pennant throughout the 1963 season. After which they proceeded to beat the Yankees to win the World Series with Sandy Koufax names as the Most Valuable Player.

Baseball Memorabilia Proving Extra and More Worthwhile

As the game of baseball keeps to capture the hearts and minds of thousands and thousands of fans around the globe, the baseball  memorabilia marketplace is becoming more and more worthwhile for gamers and collectors alike.

One only wishes to seem on eBay to see numerous examples of this phenomenon. I latterly visited the web site and saw  balls, bats, gloves, caps, jerseys and all different sorts of baseball memorabilia that were autographed by way of players  and was being auctioned off to the highest bidder.

For years, it seemed, the most important techniques professional athletes attained their fortunes was once during the money they  won from their contracts, or thru endorsements. Gamers may function pitchmen for such merchandise as  Wheaties and Gatorade.

Even though the ones are nonetheless the two largest approach to monetary achieve, autographing baseball memorabilia and different sports  paraphernalia is now

The Rain Maker Sports: Sports Bytes – June 11, 2010

I’m as excited as anyone about Stephen Strasburg, but even I think the Hall of Fame is jumping the gun. The Washington Post reports that the Cooperstown, NY museum has requested an “artifact from his [Strasburg] 14-strikeout first major league start” . . .

The last time I saw this much hype about a rookie pitcher not from NY was when Fernando Valenzuela broke into the league in 1981 . . .

I guess the Bible is right when it advises that “This too shall pass”. The Baltimore Orioles finally defeated the NY Yankees . . .

Somebody’s a little full of himself. Ben Roethlisberger compared his “Big Ben” alter ego to that of Clark Kent and Superman. “Big Ben just kept building up. It ended up coming off the field. It kept taking over. Superman kept taking over Clark Kent and you just never saw who Ben Roethlisberger was any more.” Easy there, Ben. You weren’t leaping over tall buildings in a single

Mariano Rivera

Early life

Rivera was born in Panama City, Panama on November 29, 1969 to Mariano, Sr., a ship captain in the fishing industry, and Delia. Rivera grew up in the Panamanian fishing village of Puerto Caimito, frequently playing soccer with his friends. They also played baseball in the streets by substituting milk cartons for gloves and tree branches for bats, and taping beat-up baseballs. Rivera used this makeshift equipment until his father bought him his first leather glove when he was 12 years old. He thought of baseball as a pastime and did not seriously consider playing professionally. After graduating from Pablo Sanchez High School at age 16, he worked 12-hour days on a commercial shrimping boat on which his father was captain. Rivera did not consider taking up the profession as an adult, though, calling the job “way too tough”. As a 19-year-old, he had to abandon a capsizing 120-ton commercial boat, all but convincing him to give the job up.

Specifications

Diagram of a baseball field.

Unless otherwise noted, the specifications discussed in this article refer to those described within the Official Baseball Rules, under which Major League Baseball is played. The starting point for much of the action on the field is home plate, which is a five-sided slab of whitened rubber, 17-inches square with two of the corners removed so that one edge is 17 inches long, two adjacent sides are 8 inches and the remaining two sides are 12 inches and set at an angle to make a point. Adjacent to each of the two parallel 8 1/2-inch sides is a batter’s box. The point of home plate where the two 12-inch sides meet at right angles, is at one corner of a ninety-foot square. The other three corners of the square, in counterclockwise order from home plate, are called first base, second base, and third base. Three canvas bags fifteen inches (38 cm) square mark the three bases. These three bags along with home plate form
